A new ‘green tax’ that ultimately aims to reduce carbon emissions from motor vehicles has been stalled many times over the years, but it’s implementation is inevitable if South Africa wants to keep the promises it made in 2009 at the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. Plastic bag levies and incentives for using energy efficient bulbs have seen success, so can this new tax to the same amount of good without too many negative ramifications?
